Space Coast's Best Beaches - Brevard County Florida Beach Information

Florida’s Space Coast offers more than just a glimpse at the nation’s gateway to the stars. Although internationally known as the launching pad of America’s space program, this East Central Florida jewel offers more than 70 miles of sandy beaches and naturally wild experiences.

Only 35 miles from Orlando, the Space Coast area boasts O-town’s closest and best Atlantic beaches. It doesn’t take a traveler weary of faux reality long to discover there is indeed no need to venture inland to find an out of this world holiday.

Yet even before the rockets first launched from Kennedy Space Center, it was the beautiful 72 miles of sandy Atlantic beaches and the Intercoastal waterway of the Indian River that have drawn visitors to this area for a century. Starting with luxurious river hotels that attracted U.S. presidents on vacation to the Cocoa/Rockledge area almost 100 years ago, the waters in and around the Cape Canaveral region have always had a special allure for fishermen, surfers, sailors and those just looking to waste away a few hours in peace.

The Space Coast was chosen as the home of the one and only East Coast Surfing Hall of Fame and Museum because of its reputation as the true “Capital of East Coast surfing.” Although still in its infancy and in the midst of a massive development effort, the hip museum showcases the effect these waters have had on the sport.

The kinder, gentler waves from Cape Canaveral through Cocoa Beach and south through Melbourne have created something of an elite group of champions – most notably Kelly Slater, the “Babe Ruth of Surfing,” who has won nine world championships.

While travelers looking for commercialized beaches and drag strips of theme parks may be disappointed – those looking for a vacation spot to take in some waves surrounded by a beautiful reality where sun and sea meet nature and space will not be disappointed. The beachside communities along the Space Coast come complete with a selection of family friendly venues for everything from miniature golf to craft fairs and shopping districts.

Whether you are looking for the untouched, secluded beaches and historical towns in North Brevard or the kickin’ waves and recreation of some of the southern beaches, one thing is for certain, life actually is a beach when you come to Florida’s Space Coast.

If that’s not enough, the endless beaches are tempting year round with warm Southern waters and an average daytime temperature of 73° F.

Cocoa Beach is the best destination in Florida for experienced and novice surfers alike. Seasoned surfers love Cocoa Beach's unique surfing culture and the presence of iconic hot spots like the Ron Jon Surf Shop. Newcomers benefit from the gentle waves of Florida's Space Coast and the expertise of veteran instructors. And both parties can secure great deals on timeshare vacations at Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort, which offers convenient shuttles to the beach as well as a concierge service to help you find surfboards, lessons or anything else you might need to ride the waves!
